Ingrowing Nails
(definition)

'a painful condition in which the nail grows or cuts into one or both sides of the toe.'

There are a number of reasons that ingrowing nails develop including;
Badly fitting shoes, injury to the toe, family predisposition and poor nail cutting technique.

Nail Surgery is a definitive treatment for ingrowing toenails.

The toe is numbed with a local anaesthetic and then a section of the painful edge of nail is removed. A chemical called 'phenol' is used to stop the small section of nail from growing back, giving a permanent solution to the problem.
